Monash University Proposed Project Topics for 1997

Introduction This document contains a list of supervisors and brief descriptions of their proposed and/or ongoing projects. At the top level, these projects are divided into the three major research directions of the Department: artiicial intelligence (AI), distributed object technology (DOT), object-oriented software engineering (OSE).. Within each area, the projects are sorted in alphabetical order on the names of the rst supervisors. Most of the projects are structured as follows: Project title. Names of supervisors/researchers. If some of the researchers in a project are students or are from outside the Software Development Department, then their names appear in the with list (after the Department staa members) even if they are the major players of the project. Project level: which level of students the project is aimed for, such as PhD, Masters by Research, or Honours/Masters by Coursework. A 150-500 word description Current status: what has been done and whether there are Honours/research students working on it. A couple of references. These references can be very good/important ones in the project topic and/or the supervisors' substantial publications. New and potential students are encouraged to discuss further any projects that they found interesting with the project supervisors. Please also note that the projects on this list are inclusive rather than exclusive. Students can still propose their own topic to potential supervisors or negotiate some redeenition of existing projects.
